Pas IV: The alcohol sniffer/flashlight

You are probably wondering what "Last Night's Shift" is all about.  Read on and  I will give you an idea.

About the Author of this page..........

Let me first begin by quickly describing myself. I am a 28* year old male, married and have four children*. My family means more to me than anything.  My career comes in a very close second. ("How many people have a job where they can say that?") I have been a police officer for two and a half years and I love every minute of it**.  Our department has close to 75 officers. I live in a city with a population of nearly 100,000. Crime is lower here than in most other cities our size in the United States, but that does not mean for a second that we are immune to anything. We have rapes, burglaries, robberies, high-speed chases, and all of the other crimes of huge cities.
In this email I want to give each of you a look into the world that cops live in. Including the thoughts and emotions that I experience when on patrol.

***UPDATE: I became a police officer in 1997  at age 25, and I now have 5 children. You can figure the age from that I guess, then I don't have to update too much.

What is Last Night's Shift?

Last night's shift is an email that I will send out frequently after my night shift. In the email I will give details of last nights shift. I will give my thoughts and feelings that I have regarding, "Life on the Beat". I talk about the things that I do out there on the streets. Also, I talk about how it effects me and my family. Of course, in this day and age with lawsuits and legal action I must remain as anonymous as possible. Therefore, I will use only events and never real names and places.
This email is for everyone, you do not have to be in Law Enforcement to subscribe. I feel that most of the things that I talk about may actually be somewhat boring to an police officer. The reason for that is because they see these things on a daily basis. I enjoy speaking with non--law enforcement people in order to give a better idea of what really goes on out there.
What I have found after  2+ years of sending this email is that many nights are very exciting and eventful and others are casual and mundane. All of the emails are completely true. All of the events are as detailed as I can possibly be without giving names and places.
In the first two months (now 2 years) the email has grown bigger that I imagined. At first I was able to personally add all of the subscriber names and addresses to the list. But this task soon proved to be overwhelming, so I am now using a service called Egroups. Egroups is able to add all of the subscribers automatically.
It's easy to join. Just click on the above Egroups banner and submit your email information. If it is too confusing or does not work correctly, simply email your address to me and I will personally add you to the mailing list.

Mailing list currently over 4500 subscribers.

How do you know if this Email is for you?

It is if you have ever asked yourself:

"What was that Cop was thinking?"
"How do Officer's cope with the things they see?"
"Why does my (Officer) spouse never talk to me about police work?"
"Do I have what it takes to become a Police Officer?"
"What do I need to do in order to become a Police Officer?"
